Album: It (1983)

Songfacts®:

  • This was the very first single released by Pulp, taken from their debut 1983 album It, and it is almost unrecognizable to the output that eventually brought them commercial and mainstream success in the 1990s. It is a slow, acoustic ballad, quite a long way away from the sound of something like "Common People."
  • The only member of the band who would remain for the rest of Pulp's existence at this point was Jarvis Cocker, and evidently he remained proud of this song - for it was dusted off for a surprise live airing at a 2012 show at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
