Songfacts®:

  • Pvris vocalist Lynn Gunn has had enough of people who abuse her good nature.

If we start cracking at the center, I won't let it break
Hold it together through the weather, it's my DNA
So sick of being your giver, throwing my soul away

Gunn explained to Rock Sound that "Dead Weight" is about being a "people pleaser."

The track also examines how females get taken advantage of in this sense. Said Gunn: "This song is about stepping into my power as a woman, shedding old skin and taking nurturing/caretaker feminine nature and turning it into a super power."
  • The song is the lead single from Use Me, where for the first time Gunn owns her role as the band's leader and sole architect. The frontwoman handled pretty much everything on the record, taking on beats plus playing guitar, drums, bass and vocals with help from collaborator JT Daly.
  • Shot by YHELLOW in Milan, the video sees Gunn looking cool while surrounded by chaos.
