Songfacts®:

  • This song is mainly about AIDS in Africa and how the United States government is doing very little about it. While songs like "We Are The World" and "What's Going On" intend to spread awareness about social problems, Rage Against The Machine challenge the US government to do something about this problem. >>>

  • "Darkness Of Greed" is one of 12 songs Rage Against The Machine released on a self-titled album they made in 1991, the year they formed. They sold the album at shows on cassette and used it as a demo, which landed them a deal with Epic Records.

Seven songs from that demo made it onto their first album with Epic, which was also called Rage Against The Machine and released in 1992. "Darkness Of Greed" wasn't one of them but the band often played it live, and in 1994 it was finally released as part of the soundtrack to the movie The Crow under the title "Darkness."

That soundtrack, which also includes "Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots, sold over 3 million copies in America.
