Songfacts®:

  • Raghav says that even though this song features an insanely catchy chorus and danceable beat, it's not just about partying. In 2012, he told us what this song is about, saying: "It's about you've done all you can, you've worked as hard as you can, and now it's time to forget about that for a second." (Here's our full Raghav interview.)
  • This song has a similar vibe to The Black Eyed Peas hit "I Gotta Feeling," and Raghav intended it that way. "It's an uplifting piece that definitely has a great drop and the production is amazing," he says. "I just tried to keep it super, super, super simple throughout the record. And it just felt like it fit into a pocket."
  • Raghav believes the specific part of this song that people identify with is the bridge with the lyrics "I've paid my dues, I've done my time." The singer says he can identify with others who struggle to find success in life and that this song is for them. "We live in such a difficult world to survive in. It's like people work their asses off to pay their mortgage and they work their asses off to make sure they can clothe their children," he explains. "It's not easy right now. 'Fire' is talking about energy, whether it's going out or whether it's just letting go. It's a vice that allows you to just feel quite literally on top. So I think it's a relatable record, for sure."
  • Since its release in early 2012, this song has become a huge hit in Raghav's native Canada. The rapper says he knew it was a special song, but adds that it was hard to know if it would catch on because of the nature of the music industry. He explained it to us this way: "There are so many outside factors. The song has very little sometimes with the ball starting to get rolling. But I will admit that when I wrote 'Fire' and when I heard it, it felt like a big record."
