Songfacts®:

  • Running to 5 minutes 39 seconds, "Ariel" is Track 5 on the 1995 Stranger In Us All album. According to Candice Night in a September 2012 interview with the on-line Background Magazine, it was the first song she and her future husband Ritchie Blackmore ever wrote together, although "Black Masquerade" has a similar claim to fame. Not to be confused in any way with the earlier Dean Friedman track of the same title, it was released as a single on RCA; Side 1 has two versions, the Radio Edit which runs to 3 minutes 58 seconds, and a longer version running to 5 minutes 38. The B-side is a live version of "The Temple Of The King" (so titled) which runs to 6 minutes.
  • The original Ariel is a character from mythology, usually an angel, which is how Ritchie seems to view Candice. In this song, she is an enchantress. >>>
