  • Crawford told The Daily Telegraph October 27, 2008 about the inspiration for this ballad. Said Crawford: "These Eritrean refugees knocked on my door. It turned out they had just moved in and wanted to invite their new neighbor to dinner. Of course I went but the African food they served wasn't to my taste." The singer added: "I witnessed this perfect love affair between them, although she was considerably younger than him. This beautiful couple with their baby. As refugees they were looking for 'a world where love survives.'"

The Eritean man asked Crawford to write a song about his wife, whose name was Almaz, which means diamond. She agreed and this song was the result. However, she told The Daily Telegraph that, "when I came to play it to them they had moved again. So as far as I know, they never heard it."
