Songfacts®:

  • This romantic song finds Randy Houser recalling a teenage relationship with a girl called Evangeline. The Lake, Mississippi native penned the tune with James Otto, who is best known for his country chart-topper "Just Got Started Lovin' You."
  • Ride with me down to Louisiana
Roll with me down to New Orleans
We'll dip our toes in the Mississippi River
    Ride with me, Evangeline

The song came from Houser reminiscing how he would take off from class at Central Community College with Evangeline. He recalled to Billboard that they'd drive down to New Orleans and spend all night, hang out, then drive right back in the early morning and be back for class.
