Songfacts®:

  • Randy Houser wrote this mid-tempo love song with Rob Hatch and Jason Sellers on the penultimate day before recording sessions for How Country Feels began. On the same day, he also found for the album the tracks "Top of the World" and "Runnin' Outta Moonlight."
  • The tune finds the narrator asking his pretty date to begin their night in the way they'd normally end it. "We all remember those dates when we'd pick up the girl and pretty much we'd have to go through the whole routine of the movie, and the dinner, and riding around, and all," said Houser, "all before we could ever get to the goodnight kiss. I finally had the epiphany that you can start with the goodnight kiss and just really never go do any of that other stuff, and I thought well hell, nobody's ever written about that yet!"
  • The Wes Edwards-directed video was filmed at Nashville's historic Fontanel Mansion and completes a trilogy of clips from How Country Feels. The visuals for the title track and "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" featured the same couple as they fall in love. But the videos were not originally planned as a trilogy.

"I wish that I could say that I was smart enough to plan a trilogy, but music videos are always just one–offs," Edwards explained in a Songfacts interview."[The actors] were so popular that when the next one came out we were just like, let's use them again, because the audience really responded to them as a couple and to her,
Shawn Deering. She was great. Then, after the second one came out, we said let's do one more."
