Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Randy Houser's fourth album is a Justin Wilson, Matt Rogers and John King penned outlaw song about the adrenaline of living on the edge. "I wanted to lead with 'We Went' as the first single from the new record because it was so different for me," Houser told Rolling Stone Country. "The song is about hanging out, a little bit of danger, running from the cops - all things I grew up doing. Well, maybe avoiding the cops is more accurate (laughs)."

"But rhythmically and lyrically it's more progressive than what I've ever done," he added. "Justin told me they put this song together like a puzzle, and I think they did a great job with the alliteration and how the lyrics fit together seamlessly."
  • The song's music video was directed by Dustin Rikert, who previously helmed Houser's "Like a Cowboy" clip, It was shot over several days in various locations, including Tucson, Arizona.'s Casino Del Sol and the top of Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

According to the behind-the-scenes promo, the singer and the video's female lead are a Bonnie and Clyde-type couple, who "are on the run because they robbed a drug cartel. And they've been distributing the wealth to some people in need along the route."

Caitlin Leahy plays Randy Houser's love interest. The actress and model can be spotted regularly on Showtime and Fox Sports where she is Golden Boy Promotion's Ring Girl.
  • Randy Houser: "One of the writers of the song, Justin Wilson, had played it for our record label president, Benny Brown. I think Benny immediately heard it for me. And they sent it to me, and I loved it. I thought it was something that was, for me, very unique and not quite as traditional as I normally would've gone. So it was one of those songs that kind of struck a chord with me, and it seemed like it would be fun for our live performances."
