Songfacts®:

  • Written by Randy Houser with Travis Meadows, this harmonica-laden song finds Houser looking forward to clocking off his shift after working "like a dog all day."

The clock's about to hit 4:20
And I'll be smoking in a red-hot minute
    Forty hours in a jailhouse
I need a cold beer bailout
I ain't got another shift in me
I got a whole lotta quit in me

Houser is counting down the hours until he can quit his job for the day and cut loose.
  • Asked by Taste of Country what inspired the song he explained the title came from a movie "where a grandaddy said something about his son, he looked at him and said, 'That boy's got a whole lotta quit in him.'"

Houser saw that line as equating to his previous couple of albums when he felt like he "was at work clocking in, doing something that I didn't necessarily want to be doing."

But with Magnolia he feels like he's making the music he wants to make. "I feel like I'm off," Houser said.
  • Houser's "Whole Lotta Quit" collaborator Travis Meadows also plays the harmonica on the track. Meadows' other songwriting credits include Jake Owen's "What We Ain't Got" and Dierks Bentley's "Riser."
