Songfacts®:

  • In his teens Randy Travis battled substance abuse and as a result he could relate to this song, where he has a face-to-face talk with himself in the mirror after a night of drinking. He told The Tennessean July 15, 2008: "I tell people it's an anti-drinking song if I ever heard one. It hit home for me because of what it was about. I could relate to it probably more than I ought to be able to relate to it, but my background is what it is and I've always been honest about that."
  • The song was written by the Nashville songwriters Kris Bergsnes, Jason Matthews and Jim McCormick. It appears on Travis' album Around The Bend, a return to traditional country music after releasing five albums of gospel music.
