Songfacts®:

  • This uptempo song was released as the lead single from Rascal Flatts' 11th studio album. The romantic number finds the trio promising a girl that "every bit of love left in this beat up, banged up, scarred up heart," is hers if she wants it.
  • The song was written by Andrew Dorff (Blake Shelton's "Neon Light;" Kenny Chesney's "Save It for a Rainy Day" and Hunter Hayes' "Somebody's Heartbreak") and Jonathan Singleton (Billy Currington's "Don't," David Nail's "Red Light," Tyler Farr's "A Guy Walks Into a Bar").
  • This was one to be one of Andrew Dorff's last writing credits as he passed away aged just 40 in December 2016:

"We all felt like 'Yours If You Want It,' was the perfect way to introduce our fans and radio to the new music we've been making," said Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus in a statement. "We've been working really hard and we're very proud of this track. And what's more, the late Andrew Dorff is a writer on it, and we are so honored to be a small part of making sure his legacy lives on. We have a special angel watching over it, for sure."
  • The video was shot at Nashville's historic Hermitage Café, the location of Rascal Flatts' first-ever photo shoot. The clip tells the love story of a waitress named Stacie and a diner patron called Earl. Stacie is played by actress Kristy Swanson, whose other credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Chase, while Earl is portrayed by Chris Farley's brother Kevin Farley.

The three Rascal Flatts members all portray employees of the Hermitage Café. Gary LeVox is the cook, Jay DeMarcus the manager and Joe Don Rooney is cleaning the floor, while possibly violating health codes by playing air guitar on his mop.
  • The video was filmed by director Billy Zabka, who also shot the Flatts' "Why Wait" music clip. "He's been a dear friend of ours for a long, long time," said DeMarcus. "He's a great director. Actually, he won an Oscar for Best Short Film back in 2008, so we've got an Oscar award-winning director of our music video."
  • Speaking to The Tennessean, Jonathan Singleton said "Yours If You Want It" wasn't any different from the other songs he'd penned with Andrew Dorff. He explained that his late writing partner was fantastic at saying "I love you" or "I don't love you" in a different way that anybody had heard before.

Singleton went on to say this song was Dorff's idea. "He's pretty good at unrequited (love) songs. We can take each line of that song, and you can say the title (in response) after that."

"Andrew's brain - like all songwriters', but especially Andrew's - worked a little bit different than everybody else's," he continued. "So you come up with these little odd versions of things like the chorus: "Beat up, banged up, scarred up heart that's been waiting on a girl like you." I mean, that was specifically an Andrew Dorff line. Those Dorffs are pretty good at that stuff."
