Songfacts®:

  • Rat Boy is Jordan Cardy, a British musician from Chelmsford, Essex. His stage moniker is an old nickname from when he was younger, as his schoolmates thought he looked like a rat. Cardy told The Sun: "I was called that at school and it stuck. It's a serious name for me now."

Despite being severely dyslexic, Cardy has been writing songs since the age of 11, born out of snippets and phrases he writes down in the notebook he always carries with him.
  • This was released as a single on January 12, 2016. "I wanted to write something that sounded good on the radio," he admitted to The Independent, grinning. "Even if it doesn't actually say very much."
  • Rat Boy collaborated with producers Jason Cox and Mario Caldato Jr. on this track. He explained to Clash: "I worked with Jason Cox on 'Move,' he worked on the first Gorillaz record and Demon Days. We got on really well and he understood the sound I was going for. We hit up Mario C as well, he was on the Beastie Boys' records and he helped get some of these songs to sound right and authentic."
