Songfacts®:

  • In the '80s, Ratt rivaled Mötley Crüe for rock and roll hedonism; both bands paid their dues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles before hitting it big. In "City To City," they make the rounds, causing hell and unrest everywhere they go, and of course, enjoying some of the local culture at each stop. Lead singer Stephen Pearcy calls it "a song about hit-and-misses on the road."
  • This song dates back to Pearcy's band Mickey Ratt, which formed in San Diego in the late '70s and eventually became Ratt. It stayed on the shelf for years until Ratt completed it for their fourth album, Reach For The Sky, which like their first three, sold Platinum.
  • By this time, Ratt's producer, Beau Hill, was taking more of a role in the songwriting. He's credited as a writer along with Pearcy, Ratt guitarists Robbin Crosby and Warren DeMartini, and bass player Juan Croucier. Hill was an architect of the hair metal sound; he also produced Winger, Kix, Warrant and Europe.
