Songfacts®:

  • This started 1960's "other" dance sensation, after The Twist. The Madison steps were popularized on a Baltimore TV dance party hosted by Buddy Deane. Instructions were stated by another Baltimore DJ, Eddie Morgan.
  • This was the only Top 40 hit for Ray Bryant, the uncle of jazz guitarist Kevin Eubanks (who was the band leader of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno).
  • This was featured in the John Waters movie Hairspray. >>>

  • Don W from Baltimore, MaThere are a few mistakes regarding "The Madison Time" dance instructions. They were voiced by Baltimore DJ Eddie Morrison (real name Edwin L. Morrison). He and Ray Bryant went on to record other step-to-dance records but none were as successful. Morrison left Baltimore in 1969 to become a booth announcer at CBS owned WBBM-TV in Chicago.

  • Glenda from Hoquiam, Wadoes anyone have the lyrics to "Madison Time"? I've got most of them from the cd it is on, but there are some words I can't make out. This is very important, we have a group of ladies "Focus on Healing, the Lebed Method", for breast cancer survivors, we do dance step to music, it is a great program with much healing, we love the Madison but would love all the words. Help us Please, thanks
