Songfacts®:

  • This was written by Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn and the duo's songwriting partner, Terry McBride. McEntire explained to Great American Country why she decided to record this song. "We were in the studio recording with Tony Brown, and Tony had said they were just finishing up some of the Brooks & Dunn songs. He said, 'You ought to listen to this one song.'
I just love the song. I think it is wonderful. I think it can relate to a couple who have been together for a short time or a long time, but basically a long time. We've been through the highs and lows and ups and downs, we've fought and gotten back together, but no matter what we go through, I'm going to keep on loving you. I think it's an anniversary song."
  • Keep On Lovin' You was McEntire's 11th #1 on Country Albums. In doing so, she broke a tie with Loretta Lynn for most #1s by a solo female in the chart's history. The album also topped the Billboard 200 chart following George Strait's Twang, the previous week and Sugarland's LIVE on the Inside the week before that. This was the first instance in the history of the Billboard 200 that three country acts reigned consecutively over three weeks.
