Songfacts®:

  • This song was co-written by Dave Berg, whose other credits include Rodney Atkins' "If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)" and Emerson Drive's "Moments". The other co-writers were Sam and Annie Tate. "I was walking around with most of that chorus … not exactly sure what it was or what to do with it," Berg told the Nashville Songwriters Association International. "And then one day, my co-writers, Sam and Annie Tate, put the hook on it. Their great storytelling abilities helped to finish it."
  • "Somebody" was first recorded by singer Mark Wills for his 2001 studio album Loving Every Minute. Reba McEntire later laid down the same song for her 2003 album Room to Breathe, releasing it as that album's second single the following year. Her version topped the county chart, becoming the country star's 22nd #1 hit.
