Drunk Again

Album: Cheer Up (2002)

Songfacts®:

  • In this devastatingly sad song, the singer goes through a breakup and tries to drink away his sorrows. He's realizing he guessed wrong about their relationship, another item added to his big list of mistakes. He's now reached a level of self-doubt so profound, he's actually scarred of himself.
  • You'd never peg the artist for this one as Reel Big Fish, the ska-punk jokesters most famous for their 1996 hit "Sell Out," but it's really them. The mournful ballad was written by their trumpet player, Scott Klopfenstein, who also sang lead on the track instead of the group's usual lead singer, Aaron Barrett.
  • We were heartened to learn that Scott Klopfenstein wasn't going through a breakup-inspired bender when he wrote this song. The band posted the story on their Instagram:

"One day after rehearsal, our producer Val Garay said, 'Hey Scott, do you ever write songs?'

    Scott said 'Sometimes.'

'Well why don't you go home tonight and write a ballad, this album needs one.'

The next day, Scott came in with this incredible, heart-wrenching masterpiece that sounded like it exploded out of his tortured soul. Anyway, the rest, as they say, is history."

  • Brad from Gainesville, FlI agree with Kristen. There are many great reel big fish songs that I'd love to hear about. For example: Where Have You Been, Good Thing, She Has a Girlfriend Now, Sell Out, etc.
  • Kristen from Campbellville, CanadaI luv reel big fish but c'mon ppl this is not 1 of ther best hits. And Scott usually does back up anywayz, so its not that wierd that he'd sing a song. Hes a really good singer
