Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from the Bono and The Edge penned Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is performed by Reeve Carney, who stars in the musical as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The U2 duo back the singer while Carney's band act as the song's orchestra. The single was released digitally on May 25, 2011.
  • Whilst the soundtrack album was overseen by U2 production mainstay Steve Lillywhite, this beat-rock ballad was produced by Alex Da Kid. The British producer is best known for co-writing Eminem's hit single "Love The Way You Lie."
  • Whilst Bono and the Edge penned the song's soaring chorus, the verses were written by Mark Foster of Foster the People. He recalled to Spinner UK: "I was in the studio with a producer called Alex the Kid and we were just songwriting together. We worked on this tune and it turned out it was a Bono/the Edge song that I wrote the verses for."
  • Initially Spiderman was beset with problems, including opening night delays, poor reviews and injuries to various cast members. However, over the last week of 2011, the production sold $2.9 million in tickets, beating the previous Broadway record set by Wicked over seven days in January 2011. All the publicity - even though it was mostly negative - piqued interest in the show and filled the theater.
