• The *69 feature was relatively new in 1994, and it proved to be the beginning of the end for prank phone calls, as you could immediately call back anyone asking a question like "Is your refrigerator running" (well go chase it!), or inquiring about Hugh Jass. Especially devious users of the *69 feature could return the call posing as the authorities, and inform the prankster that he was going to be arrested. Top 40 radio DJs, whose request lines were always a common target for these calls, could now retaliate.
