Songfacts®:

  • Rex Orange County is an English singer-songwriter whose birth name is Alex O'Connor. He briefly attended in his mid teens as a drummer the BRIT School, a London institution, whose alumni include Adele, Amy Winehouse and Katy B, but released his first, self-produced album before he graduated.
  • This is the title track of Rex Orange County's second album, which is dedicated to O'Connor's first serious girlfriend, Thea Morgan-Murrell. The Apricot Princess title is also her nickname.
  • The song is an homage to "Another Star," from Stevie Wonder's 1976 Songs in the Key of Life. "It's jazz and pop going together without it being 'I love jazz' or 'I love pop,'" Rex explained to Billboard. "Those songs are undeniably classic."
