Songfacts®:

  • Running to 2 minutes 33 seconds, this 2003 song about the odious Carl Panzram appears on the soundtrack of the 2011 documentary Carl Panzram: The Spirit Of Hatred And Vengeance, and sums him up to a tee. Panzram was hanged on September 5, 1930 at Leavenworth Penitentiary for the murder of a civilian prison worker. His last words are said to have been "Hurry it up, you Hoosier bastard! I could kill a dozen men while you're screwing around!"

There are variations on the quote, but there is no denying the sentiment. Although he almost certainly committed other murders, Panzram boasted of/claimed to have committed so many crimes that it is difficult to take anything he said seriously. Certainly none of his wilder claims were ever corroborated.

The song is credited to The World Famous Crawlspace Brothers, ie Ethan Urban (the former Julian Barrett) and Rich Hillen, Jr. According to Hillen, his partner wrote the bulk of the song, including the lyrics. >>>
