Songfacts®:

  • "Plug" is a common term used in Atlanta for a drug cartel. They supply the "connects" with large quantity of drugs and the connects then distribute to dealers who pass them on to the users. The expression originates from an AC power plug (or socket) being an electrical connector.

Plug Walk's single cover features an astronaut performing a space walk and throughout the track there are numerous mentions of "space coupes" and "spaceships."

The track's drug/space connection is made with the video, which was inspired by a scene from the pilot episode of the 2008 TV series Breaking Bad with some added extraterrestrial elements. Directed by DAPS, who has previously worked with Migos and Kendrick Lamar, the clip features Rich the Kid cooking up a poisonous gas inside his RV meth lab with an alien in the middle of the desert, presumably the infamous Area 51, in an attempt to kill two drug dealers and eliminate his competition.
  • Til I ran into the plug ('til I ran into the plug)

This is an interpolation of part of the hook from Rich The Kid's 2015 single, "Plug", which was featured on his 2015 album Dabbin Fever.
  • The song's punchy beat is courtesy of Rich the Kid's in-house collaborator Toronto producer TheLabCook. His resume also includes Gucci Mane's "Solitaire" featuring Migos and Lil Yachty. TheLabCook admitted to Genius that he didn't anticipate "Plug Walk" blowing up as it did.

"When I made it I had no idea it would be gold in a month, or almost platinum," he said. "I didn't see the potential in it. When I heard him record I was like, 'What? Really, that's that beat?' I didn't even like that beat that much. I may not think this beat is that great but a lot of it has to do with how the artist uses it."
