Songfacts®:

  • Over D. Rich's aggressive beat, Ross spits rhymes where he asserts his dominance over the music industry. "Strictly that fast dope boy Miami lifestyle," he told Billboard magazine. "Blue hundred dollar bills."
  • Ross steps into the Drake and Meek Mill feud with some shots seemingly aimed at the Toronto rhymer.

Color money got your bi--h out on a world tour
My lil homie made a million on his girl's tour

The Miami rapper is referencing a line on Drake's diss song "Back to Back," where he poked fun at Mill being the opening act on his girlfriend Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint Tour. "I'm just stating facts," Ross told Billboard. "My homie made a million on that tour - don't get it twisted."
  • The final bar of the Drake baiting section "I got more money than that p---y that you're signed to" is a reference to the Canadian's Young Money boss Lil Wayne and J. Prince, the CEO of Houston-based Rap-a-Lot Records. "I was just with Weezy the other night at the club; he was just on the remix with me," Ross said on The Breakfast Club, the day before Black Market's release. "J. Prince, that's my big homie. Anything else, take it how you want it. Take it how you want it."
  • The song title refers to an incident in April 2015 in Tallahassee when a man screaming "COLOR MONEY!!" slammed the rapper Plies off stage with a WWE finishing move.
  • Speaking to USA Today about the track's meaning, Ross said: "It's supposed to wake the streets up - it was never about me taking sides. I am (Maybach Music Group). I'm only on one side. 'Color Money' is doing exactly what it's supposed to do: talk to the streets and the real G's."
