  • In this song, Rihanna cuts loose her no-good, cheating, cad of a boyfriend through theater analogies, telling him to take a bow for his brilliant performance of lies so she can applaud. The lyric is by Rihanna's Def Jam labelmate Ne-Yo, who wrote a similar song for Beyoncé: "Irreplaceable." In that one, Bey gives the guy the boot by packing up his things (they're to the left) and calling him a cab.
  • Riri was on a roll with "Take A Bow," her third #1 hit, following "SOS" and "Umbrella." She released her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, in 2007. Instead of going to work on her next album, Def Jam had her record two new singles, "Take A Bow," and "Disturbia," and put them on a re-released version of the album called Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded in 2008. Both songs went to #1, as did her T.I. collaboration "Live Your Life." Between the three songs, she spent nine weeks at #1 in 2008 when she was just 20 years old.

Rihanna's next album, Rated R, was released in 2009 and included another #1, "Rude Boy."
  • This wasn't the first song to mock a lying lover with the title phrase. Madonna's "Take A Bow" was released in 1994 and was a #1 hit for seven weeks. She co-wrote it with Babyface.
  • Many of Rihanna's songs are upbeat dance tunes with a Caribbean flavor (she's from Barbados), but "Take A Bow" is straight R&B. It was her first song to top the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
  • This track was produced by the Norwegian team Stargate, who often collaborated with Ne-Yo. They also produced his solo hit "So Sick" and Rihanna's songs "Unfaithful" and "Hate That I Love You."
  • The song made a huge leap from #53 to #1, which was for a time the second-biggest jump to the summit in Hot 100 history, trailing only Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder," which rose from #64 to #1 in 2007.
  • In the video, Rihanna lures her guy over and then pulls a Waiting To Exhale on him, setting fire to his stuff. It was directed by Anthony Mandler, who did most of her videos from this era. Mandler was able to accentuate Rihanna's natural beauty in just about any setting. He later became a top director of commercials for fitness and fashion products, working with a range of celebrities. Meanwhile, Rihanna became a billionaire thanks to her Fenty beauty line.
  • A remake by the cast of the musical comedy television series Glee returned "Take A Bow" to the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 after the show's season premiere on September 9, 2009.
  • This song shows up in the 2008 movie The House Bunny.
  • On the day Liz Truss resigned as UK prime minister after just 44 days in the job, the BBC Two current affairs program Newsnight began with a cutting one-minute-45-second video summing up her stormy premiership. The editors lined up lyrics from "Take The Bow" to accompany the shots.
