Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Postcards From Paradise, Ringo Starr co-wrote the tune with Todd Rundgren. He enlisted Joe Walsh, who is married to Marjorie Bach (the sister of Starr's wife, Barbara Bach), to supply the guitar solo. Ringo told TeamRock: "I gave Todd the track and my idea and my words, and he turned it into what it is today. Joe's a brother-in-law now – he can't refuse. It needed some of that feeling Joe has. I gave him a call and he came over on a Sunday afternoon."

The session lasted just two hours – Ringo purposely kept it short. "I tell Joe, when he's done a solo, 'That's it,'" the former Beatle said. "He wants to do it and do it and do it. That's how he is; but I've known him long enough to say, 'No – we've got it.'"
  • Starr told NME that he originally wrote all the album's tracks by playing the drums before inviting other musicians to record their various parts. "It's just the way I do it," he explained. "I start off on my own. I play drums and nobody's there, we have no song and I'm saying 'Oh, there's a verse... and chorus... and the end.' So far it's worked."
