Songfacts®:

  • The title refers to Summerville, Georgia, where Rissi Palmer would spend her (appropriately) summers. The song is a tribute to her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, all of whom Palmer credits with making her the woman she is.
  • Palmer was seven years old when her mother died. After her great-grandmother died, she wanted to write something for both of them. "It's a tribute to the impact they each had on me," Palmer told us in 2015. "I haven't been back to Summerville since 2007, because truthfully, it's hard for me. Lots of memories. My great-grandmother's house is still there, but it's a social club now."
  • The Nashville songwriters Sarah Majors and Deanna Walker wrote this with Palmer. The chimes at the end of the song were the brainchild of one of the producers, Shannon Sanders.
