Songfacts®:

  • "Only To Be With You" is lifted from Permanent Shade of Blue, Roachford's third studio album, released in 1994. The album was a particular hit in Australia, where it was certified Double Platinum.

Andrew Roachford explained to Songfacts that the song was musically and lyrically inspired by Thin Lizzy, which he was listening to a lot of at the time: "I loved Thin Lizzy, and just wanted to write a song that had a little romantic lyric but is slightly tongue-in-cheek on the verses, and it became one of the main live anthems for us. It still is."
  • In 2020, Andrew Roachford was awarded an MBE - a coveted honor given by the Queen in recognition of services to the arts. Speaking about the experience, Andrew told Songfacts: "Ahh, there's no words. Number one, it was a shock when I got the actual letter to say you've been in the honors list and that was sort of a surreal moment because I never thought about that. I never thought, 'Oh, one day I'd like to be MBE.' It was not in my mind at all. And when I spoke to my mum, to see how over the moon she was, it really got it into me the enormity of it. Going into Buckingham Palace with my family, with my brother who's pushed my career and has been my manager for years, and my mum, it was just one of those moments I'll never forget."
