Songfacts®:

  • Here, Robbie Robertson sings about remaining optimistic in this beautiful, broken world. The song was inspired by John Lennon's call for peace and togetherness. He told Uncut magazine:

"People say that dream completely died and fell apart inside. But no, I don't believe it did. It's the basis for the best of things. That generation, who came of age during the late 60s and early 70s, they stood up and helped stop a war. Love won peace won. We hope that that will continue. I was driving in LA one day and 'All You Need Is Love' came on the radio. I know it's a naive thing, but I thought, you know what question mark that's going to live forever. This other s--t is going to be here and gone."
  • The song's meandering groove was inspired by some of Robertson's other heroes: "I thought of Dale Hawkins and 'Susie Q,' just as far as a groove and guitar riff," he said, "like James Burton or Roy Buchanan. That song has cobwebs all over it."
