Songfacts®:

  • The final track on Robin Gibb's posthumous album 50 St Catherine's Drive is an unfinished demo, which was the last tune the musician was working on before his death in May 2012. His widow, Dwina, said the poignant last composition made her weep when she first listened to it. "He cried when he wrote it", she added. "This fragment of song is poignant, wistful, beautiful and unfinished."
  • Robin Gibb worked on the song late at night during the summer of 2011 using keyboards in their bedroom and some iPad software. He had intended to complete it in the studio with his brother Barry, but ill health prevented him from completing the task. "He missed his twin brother Maurice who had passed away, but when he closed his eyes, the three young brothers were back in Sydney, Australia, happy together with their dreams and hopes for the future," said Dwina. "Their future creations of course affected the world."

  • Carrie from MoWhen I read the lyrics to 'Sydney,' I knew it had to be memories of the days of old; I only wish he would have had the chance to complete the song to perform it with Barry. It breaks my heart the 3 brothers weren't getting on; as good as each one was, they were always better together. I pray the love for each other was still there at the very end.
Thank you, Bee Gees, for the fond memories of my younger days whenever I hear your beautiful words put to music.
  • Farrah Teague from Elon, North CarolinaThis is such a beautiful song. It's also very sad. I love this song so much.
