Songfacts®:

  • This dance floor banger finds Thicke singing of his desire to get back together with a former lover. The song was produced by Max Martin, whose résumé include hit singles for the likes of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift.

Robin Thicke, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ali Payami and Onika Maraj are the credited songwriters on this track.
  • The song features an animated verse by Nicki Minaj. Thicke previously collaborated with the New York MC on "Shakin' it 4 Daddy" a track from his 2009 album Sex Therapy: The Experience.
  • The lyrics were inspired by Thicke's well-publicized breakup with his wife Paula Patton. "I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together," the singer told Good Morning America. "What I was going through at the time, I really related to that and connected with it. It's more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership."
  • This was poised to Thicke's comeback single of sorts, and with a team of hot talent behind it, the song had the makings of a hit. It wasn't to be, as it never caught on. One of the co-writers, Savan Kotecha, cites it as the one song he thought would score but didn't.
