Songfacts®:

  • This song about unrequited love was co-written by Robyn's's friend and musical collaborator Klas Ahlund, who also co-wrote Britney Spears "Piece Of Me."
  • In Robyn's home country Sweden, "Be Mine" was originally released as a single on March 30, 2005 where it peaked at #3. It wasn't released in the UK until January 2008 following the success of "With Every Heartbeat."
  • In an interview with I Like Music, Robyn described how the song came about: "Throughout making this album, one of the big inspirations for making it was to go back to being a teenager and how dramatic life was at some points. The first time you get heartbroken, it's really something most people remember for the rest of their lives. When we wrote the song we started to write this sad love song, to make it really obvious what the emotion we were talking about was we both thought going back to the teenagers state of mind would be a really good way of communicating this feeling. So the lyrics, they are kind of desperate and they are very vulnerable and I wanted the video to do that as well."
  • In the same interview, Robyn discussed her songwriting process: "It is completely random, all songs are written differently. Of course I have certain ways of going about it, but you never really know where a good song is going to come from. It might start with the lyrics or a beat or the melody, you never know where it is going to come from. Every time I work with someone new, you have that situation. With 'Every Heartbeat,' for example, that song started with the track, because Andres (Kleerup) had started with the music already and I wrote the song on top of it. With 'Be Mine' it was a song that was written just on a guitar."
  • Åhlund had written the song's music on guitar, but Robyn had no intention of making guitar music. "I let him have it for a while," she told The Guardian, "but then I played him 'Cloudbusting' by Kate Bush, and said, 'Can we make it into strings instead?'" Åhlund granted her wish.
