Songfacts®:

  • This musical elegy was written for a specific person. Dan Boudrie explains: "The Rockets wrote and performed 'Lost Forever, Left For Dreaming' for my wife's father J.B. Fields. He was a mover and shaker in the music scene, particularly in Detroit, beginning as the sound man for The Detroit Wheels featuring Mitch Ryder who later without Ryder became the Rockets. J.B. Was beloved by many in the industry, including the members of both Kiss and Blue Öyster Cult. He in fact perished while running the BOC tour in April, 1978 en route to the stadium with a load of equipment one of his drivers left short of the destination. His truck flew over the bridge within sight of the venue and the band remembers the incident vividly."
  • The Rockets were a Detroit band that developed a strong following in the area but never hit it big. This song was written by their drummer, Johnny "The Bee" Badanjek. The rest of the lineup at this time was:

    David Gilbert - vocals
James McCarty (not the Yardbirds drummer) - guitar
    Donnie Backus - piano
    Dennis Robbins - acoustic guitar

David Hood of Muscle Shoals Sound Studios played bass on this track.
