Songfacts®:

  • Here, Rod Stewart sings of his admiration for a mystery woman.

    Somebody's looking down on you
    Somebody's smiling down on you
So cool, so fine, class redefined
That style, so wild, that face, such grace
After you they broke the mould, Honey Gold

"It's a song about a girl that I looked up to, beautiful dresser, beautiful girl," Stewart told The Independent. "This was in the '70s and I haven't seen her for a while, but the last time I did see her, she looked just as gorgeous."
  • Though the woman is not named, there are clues to her identity in lyrics like, "I remember you at a rally for peace in the summer of '95." Stewart told The Sun: "It's almost a true tale. I don't know if there was a peace march in 1995 but she was and still is the sort of woman who would have joined it."
