Songfacts®:

  • Dear Mother... Love Albert (later Albert!) was a TV series starring Rodney Bewes. The first episode was screened September 15, 1969.

Running to around 3 minutes 17 seconds, the theme song "Dear Mother Love Albert," which was performed by Bewes, was released as a single on the Revolution Records label, and along with the B-side "Meter Maid" was his first and penultimate venture onto vinyl.

He co-wrote the song with Mike Hugg of Manfred Mann, producing it with Hugg and producer Dave Hadfield (not to be confused with Canadian singer-songwriter Dave Hadfield).
  • Curiously, "Dear Mother, Love Albert" has not simply a psychedelic but a slightly sinister feel to it, not the sort of thing one would expect either for a comedy series or from Rodney Bewes, who spent most of his early career playing boyish characters like Albert Courtnay and his better known character Bob Ferris in The Likely Lads. >>>
