Songfacts®:

  • Each track on the Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela's fourth album, 9 Dead Alive, celebrates an individual who has passed on, but still resonates through their deeds and words. This song, the CD's lead single, was inspired by Antonio de Torres Jurado Almería (1817 – 1892), who is considered the most important Spanish guitar maker of the 19th century. Most acoustic guitars in use today are derivatives of his designs.
  • A live performance of the song was broadcast in the UK during the opening credits of the UEFA Champions League Final program. The match saw two Spanish teams - Athletico Madrid and Real Madrid - going head to head.
