Songfacts®:

  • Roger Waters closes his Is This The Life We Really Want? album with a sequence of three optimistic love songs. The lyrics for the first of them, "Wait for Her,"' were inspired by an English translation of "Lesson from the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her)," by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
  • Waters told Uncut regarding the closing trio of songs: "They're romantic, certainly. They're about different kinds of love. They're erotic, partly. The embodiment of the female. But it's also about the transcendental nature of love. Love, if we're lucky enough to be exposed to it and brave enough to embrace it, can transcend us from the mundane to the sublime."
  • The closing three-song mini-suite was inspired by a past relationship. "I had a love affair a couple of years ago," Walters told Mojo in 2017, "which was very short lived but very passionate and that kicked me to a different place."

"So that was the idea that love could be transcendentally experienced and you can dispense with a lot of negative aspects if you're prepared to embrace love," he continued. "Whether it's love for a woman or for liberty, or empathy for a little girl, it's hugely important."
