  • Role Model (Tucker Pillsbury) is an American singer-songwriter known for his introspective lyrics and blend of indie pop and bedroom pop.
  • He was born in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, to Rusty, a real estate appraiser, and Susan, a special education teacher. His parents' music taste shaped his own - he grew up listening to Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Peter Frampton and Lou Reed.
  • As a child, Pillsbury was obsessed with Elvis Presley. He'd dress up as Elvis and perform for his family during holidays, complete with posters, lunchboxes, and even a life-size cut-out.
  • Pillsbury originally planned to be a filmmaker and studied film at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. During his freshman year, he broke his wrist twice (once skiing, once skateboarding), leaving him stuck in his dorm. After friends left music equipment behind, Pillsbury started making rap mixtapes and learning Logic Pro. He eventually dropped his course to concentrate on music full time.
  • Pillsbury originally released rap music as "Tucker" and "Dillis." In early 2017 he switched to singing and alternative/bedroom pop and began dropping music as Role Model.
  • The name "Role Model" is intentionally ironic. While some fans think it's a nod to Paul Rudd's character in the 2008 film Role Models, Pillsbury says it's a joke. He chose it to highlight his own imperfections and self-deprecating humor.
  • Pillsbury self-released his debut EP, Arizona in the Summer, in 2017, which he recorded in his closet. Rapper Mac Miller heard the EP and flew him out to LA, where he later signed with Interscope Records.
  • Pillsbury dated internet personality Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023. Their romance began when Tucker messaged her on Instagram after seeing her on TikTok. It was his first relationship and heavily influenced his debut album with Interscope, Rx.
  • Pillsbury has a laid-back, vintage-meets-streetwear style, often wearing tank tops, cargo pants, and showing off tattoos like "may women rule the world." He's also known for his dry, self-deprecating humor, especially on TikTok as "Saint Laurent Cowboy" and his running joke about being nominated for People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.
  • He doesn't have any hobbies outside of music. "As boring as it is," Pillsbury told Ladygum, "that alone consumes me and the constant fight to find inspiration and things."
  • Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Pillsbury has spoken openly about managing the condition while touring. He's found support from fellow musician Este Haim, who has the same condition.
