Songfacts®:

  • This Christmas song in 4/4 time was co-written by Rolf Harris and John D. Brown. A boomer is a colloquialism for kangaroo; this song tells the tale of Santa making his rounds on a sleigh pulled not by reindeer, but by boomers, who are better suited to the Australian heat (Christmas comes in the middle of summer in Australia).

Backed by "I've Lost My Mummy," it was released on the Columbia label in 1961, although Harris alone is credited on the actual record.
  • In December 2015 this song was reported to have been banned by some shopping centers in Australia on account of the conviction of Harris for historical child sex offenses in the UK the previous year. >>>
