Songfacts®:

  • Ronan's mother died from cancer in 1998, when the Boyzone singer was just 20. He told the Mail on Sunday March 8, 2009 that when he was recording the vocals for Songs For My Mother, "there were tears," particularly on this song. Ronan added: "I was in a booth on my own and I couldn't sing. It's a song about a kid losing his mum and the father explaining what happens at the funeral and so on. It's the song that helped me get through Mam's death."
