Songfacts®:

  • "The Undiscovered Country" finds Rosanne Cash addressing both the #MeToo movement and the Trump-led administration.

The singer told Billboard that after the 2016 election of the sandy-haired White House incumbent, one of her daughters called her in tears and said, "I feel like I don't matter."

Cash added that the way young women are treated like objects or property was a topic already weighing on her mind. "You want to protect your girls, and then we have a self-professed sexual predator as the leader of the free world," she said. "So by implication, that means it doesn't matter. And it so matters. I just can't believe that in 2018 we're still at this place."
