Songfacts®:

  • In this song the delay is synched to the tempo. In the November 1991 issue of Guitar Player magazine, Alex Lifeson explained: "I did it originally, then Stephen (the engineer) added a little bit more DDL to one of the other cleaner guitars to give it more energy. The song seemed quite same as we went through different sections - something was lacking. We wanted to get the first verse seesawing a little more. Edge, from U2, is a pro at that." >>>

  • John from Asheville, NcHas a unique chorus, not terribly unlike Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire...but it's not my favorite Rush tune ever that's for sure.
  • Kent Lyle from Palo Alto, Ca"The odds get even". The oddly disharmonic backing vocals in this vocal section may belong to Alex, who sang backup on this album. He had not done so since 1974 and did not do so afterwards. With more practice he might mesh better with Geddy, and he does minimal backup live, but he's never been much of a singer if you are willing to ignore his improvised crooning during live versions of "La Villa Strangiato".
