Songfacts®:

  • Here, Russell Dickerson recalls a road trip he took in his Toyota Tacoma along California's Pacific Coast Highway. He penned the tune with his close friends and frequent co-writers Casey Brown and Parker Welling. Dickerson told the story of the song to The Boot:

"'Blue Tacoma' started out more as a hypothetical. We thought we were writing a song that was going to be, like, 'Wouldn't it be cool if we took a road trip?' It was a good song, but it wasn't great. But then, my wife and I got to live out in California for a while, and drive up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. That view is just breathtaking.

We came back to the co-writers, who were the same guys who'd co-written my previous single, 'Yours,' and told them that we had to re-write the song. It was good, but we had to make it better. So we went back and put in all these real-life elements that my wife and I got to experience while we were on that trip. Once we did that, and plugged in those little details that were true to life, it just clicked for the whole team."
  • The music video shows Russell Dickerson serenading his wife Kailey on the beach with a performance of the song and showing their love for each other during a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. Kailey co-directed the clip with her brother, Troben Seymour. Dickerson said:

"Blue Tacoma is such a feel-good road trip song so we wanted the video to look exactly how the song sounded. My wife shot the video for my first single, 'Yours,' and I wanted a very intimate vibe of us as a couple on a road trip through California. She and her brother did a phenomenal job capturing our love in this music video."
