  • A Nashvillian since age 10, Russell Dickerson earned a degree in music from Belmont University and signed with Creative Artists Agency in 2010.

He co-penned this love song with close friends and frequent co-writers Casey Brown and Parker Welling and it was released independently as a digital single on July 23, 2015. "Yours" was later serviced to country radio on April 24, 2017 after Dickerson signed with Triple Tigers Records. The track gradually gathered momentum and on January 27, 2018, it topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
  • This started out as a love letter to Dickerson's wife Kailey. "["Yours"] was only the second song that the three of us ever wrote together," the singer told Billboard "It's certainly a love song, written for my wife, Kailey. I'm not kidding: when we finished it, we knew it was special, and I said to Casey and Parker, 'You can go to zillow.com and pick out a new house, 'cause we just wrote a # 1 song.'"
  • This was the first release for Triple Tigers Records, which was launched as a partnership between Thirty Tigers, Triple 8 Management and Sony Music. The previous opening single for a label to top Country Airplay was Chris Lane's "Fix," the debut offering by Big Loud Records, which reached the summit on August 20, 2016.
  • The song's black-and-white music video was directed by Dickerson's wife and filmed through the back hatch of the family SUV as a friend drove the vehicle down a road in west Nashville. Dickerson, who was walking behind the car, told The Boot he had envisioned "a guy walking down the road and singing to the camera."

However, a giant storm rolled in shortly after filming began giving the video a unique effect. Dickerson said: "We got five or six takes of pre-storm, and then it just unloaded and we just kept going, kept going, kept going. I think we were there an hour and a half Dickerson stuck with the concept."
  • Parker Welling told Billboard that even when they were writing the verses, she, Dickerson and Brown "felt like one of those rare kinds of things songwriters hope happen."

They were especially excited about their lyrics concerning Dickerson feeling lost before he met his wife. "Casey had built a track, and I messed around with lyrics," Welling added. "It took a couple of days, but we knew we had something special."
  • The video was shot guerrilla-style with no budget. Filmed before he had a record deal, the video cost only $6 in gas money. The footage had to be converted to black and white because brake lights from a buddy's car were visible in color. Despite this, the video received a CMT Award nomination.
  • An early EP containing "Yours," "Blue Tacoma" and "Every Little Thing" was rejected by record labels. One label passed because "Yours" sounded like a CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) worship song. The EP was already gaining YouTube momentum at the time of the rejections.
