Songfacts®:

  • Here, Ryan Bingham addresses the constant effort of having to fight bullying throughout the life and the different ways it manifests over time.
  • Ryan Bingham was born in Hobbs, New Mexico. His family relocated to the Midland/Odessa area of West Texas when he was a child, before eventually moving to Houston. He explained to The Boot that because his parents kept moving around a lot he was "always the new kid in town." Each time, he moved to a new school Ryan needed to confront someone wanting to pick on him on his first day there to "establish that pecking order."
  • The primary stimulus for Bingham to write a song on the subject was the student March for Our Lives gun control movement in the wake of the Parkland, Florida shooting. The singer told Billboard he was struck that there were grown men and women going after these kids on social media.

"I was really taken aback by the kind of rhetoric people were using against these young people who were speaking out against gun violence," he explained. "The courage of these kids was inspiring to me."
