Songfacts®:

  • A lyric in this song was inspired by a quotation from the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Hobler's songwriting is often influenced by books and movies. He sometimes writes in his notebook passages, lines, and ideas that he loves. A friend that often attends his shows called him out on a lyric in "Suit and Tie" being similar to a line in Life of Pi. He said in our interview: "There's something about a tie being a noose hanging upside down or something like that. I totally ripped that off from there."
