Songfacts®:

  • Sally Oldfield's musical career started in early 1968, when she formed the folk duo The Sallyangie with her brother Mike Oldfield. An album, Children of the Sun, was issued in 1968 but soon afterwards, The Sallyangie disbanded.

Five years later Sally Oldfield appeared on her sibling's breakthrough album, Tubular Bells, as part of the "girlie chorus." This song, released from her Water Bearer album, is her only hit single.
  • Asked by TeamRock where the inspiration for song came from, Sally Oldfield replied: "It happened because my label, Bronze, told me that the Water Bearer album could do with an extra song. A single. They even suggested I do something with a trumpet intro. This really annoyed me."

"Right after that meeting, I had to drive straight home to Wales, where I lived at the time, and I was so angry about what the label had said to me that I couldn't get it out of my head. And suddenly, from nowhere, the idea for this song just came to me. I was so happy that I bounced up and down. Other drivers must have thought I was drunk!"
  • Oldfield performed the song twice on the BBC music show Top of the Pops, but the experience didn't make her feel like a pop star. "I don't think the audience knew how to react to me in my hippy dress, or the song," she said. "So, I wouldn't say I was ever regarded as a pop star by anyone, least of all myself."
  • Oldfield revisited the song in 2000, when a remixed version became a dance hit at clubs in Spain.

Oh we are mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time
There is nothing in the world that we can do
To stop the light of love come shining through
And the fire of a newborn moment is shining round you
    Kiele aloha
Hey, a perfect stranger, a feeling of you,
    Kiele aloha
Hey, come be with me for we are, we are, we are...
Perfect mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time
There is nothing in the world that we can do
To stop the light of love come shining through
And the fire of a golden light is shining round you
    Kiele aloha
Hey, the wind is cold, and I long to hold you
    Kiele aloha
Hey, come be with me for we are, we are, we are
We are perfect mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time
There is nothing in the world that we can do
To stop the light of love come shining through
And the streets are filled with bells, and the sky was falling
    Kiele aloha
There are so many things I long to tell you, can you here me calling
    Kiele aloha
Hey, come be with me for we are, we are, we are
We are perfect mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time
There is nothing in the world that we can do
To stop the light of love come shining through
We are mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time
There is nothing in the world that we can do
To stop the light of love come shining through
We are mirrors in the sun and we brightly shine
We are singing and dancing in perfect time...
