Sam Barber is a country singer-songwriter from Missouri known for his deeply emotional performances that blend country, rock, folk, and alternative influences. His music draws inspiration from personal struggles and hardships, infusing his songs with emotional depth.
He was raised on his family's 400-acre farm in Frohna, a small town of about 200 people in Southeast Missouri.
Barber's early life revolved around baseball, football and basketball. His musical journey began at 16 when he picked up his great-grandfather's old Gibson guitar with only five strings and started writing songs.

"I was into sports growing up. My dad is a mechanic, and my mom is a nurse, but they don't do music," he told Billboard. "My great-grandfather had a guitar, and it was in my parents' room. When I was 15 or 16, I just thought it'd be cool to learn it. I never actually met him, but from stories I heard and pictures I've seen, he used to play in bars and stuff. I started watching YouTube videos, learning to play, and went from there."

Barber practiced playing the guitar obsessively to the point of annoying his parents.
Sam Barber's first step into the public eye was a simple yet serendipitous one: he uploaded a YouTube cover of Zach Bryan's "Revival" while sitting on a stool in his living room. To his astonishment, the very first comment on the video came from none other than Zach Bryan's father, leaving Sam starstruck.
Barber posted his first TikTok, an original song called "Hurricane," on March 14, 2021. He admitted to Apple Music that he thought TikTok was a "stupid app," he but started posting videos after his friend urged him to give it a try. While this initial post garnered a modest 14,500 views and 450 likes, he continued posting a mix of original songs and covers. In July of that year Barber had his first viral moment with a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man," which accumulated over 390,000 views and 50,000 likes.
Barber was studying civil engineering at State Technical College in Linn, Missouri, when he released his debut single "Run Away High" on September 6, 2021.
Barber auditioned for American Idol in 2022 and earned a golden ticket, but just missed the cut for the 20th season.
He released his breakthrough song "Straight and Narrow" in 2022, which he wrote at age 16. It became RIAA Platinum-certified and reached #113 in the US.
Sam Barber moved to Montana in early 2023 to launch his music career because that's where Outlaw Foundry, the management company that recruited him, is based. Being in Big Sky country forced him to focus on music and helped him develop as an artist. Many of his early songs deal with the homesickness he felt after moving there.
Barber headlined his first sold-out show at The Basement in Nashville on June 11, 2023. The next month he shared the stage with a couple of legendary artists, performing at Bruce Springsteen's BST Hyde Park series on July 8 and opening for Ed Sheeran at the Royal Oak Theater on July 14.
Barber made his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 23, 2023. "I was definitely nervous for that show," he told Billboard. "But as soon as I stepped in the circle and everything, it kind of all hit me and it was a pretty crazy feeling."
Before Sam Barber ever imagined becoming a professional musician, he was just a kid in his living room, sitting on a stool, strumming Zach Bryan's "Revival" on guitar. On a whim, he uploaded the video to YouTube - no grand plan, just a love for music. The surreal twist? One of the very first comments came from Zach Bryan's dad.
