  • Sam Smith wrote and recorded this haunting string ballad for the BBC and Netflix adaptation of Watership Down. The song served as the theme tune to the 2018 animated mini-series.
  • The 2018 Watership Down animated series is an adaptation of Richard Adams' 1972 novel about a pack of rabbits who flee the destruction of their warren. The book recounts their adventures as they seek a place in which to establish a new home. Smith was inspired by his childhood love for the original novel, which he has described as "powerful and timeless."
  • Smith wrote the music and the lyrics with Steve Mac, the mastermind behind Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You." He recorded the tune with the BBC Orchestra at London's Abbey Road Studios in September 2018.
  • The song has an illustrious predecessor. Art Garfunkel's 1978 theme tune to the 1978 Watership Down movie version, "Bright Eyes," was the biggest-selling UK single of 1979, staying at #1 for six weeks.
