Songfacts®:

  • After recording the original demo for this song in Heavy Roc Music's Avenue C apartment in 2007, singer-songwriter Samuel Hindes released the final version of the track in advance of his 2010 debut album, Trains to Wanderland. The song is a love letter to Samuel's hometown of New York City.
  • The song's music video shows a cheerful New York City sanitation worker, played by Samuel, riding on a garbage truck on a cold winter's day. After work, he meets up with a lady friend and all through the clip, NYC is used as a backdrop. "That's sort of what the song is about, growing up in New York City and seeing all these places from a moving point of view, like on the back of a truck," he told Spin magazine.
The refrain of da-da-das are lip-synced in the video by various friends and family members of Samuel, including his mother and buddy Daniel Balk of New York rockers the Postelles.
  • "I Love New York" is an advertising campaign that has been used since the mid-1970s to promote tourism in New York City. The 'I Love New York' logo, consisting of the capital letter I, followed by a red heart symbol and the capital letters N and Y, was created by graphic designer and New York Magazine founder, Milton Glaser.
